Pssst...you...over there...in your cubicle...wait...don’t worry about minimizing your Facebook page, I won’t tell.
I have a very important question to ask you.
Are you happy in your career?
Most women to whom I have asked this question generally respond with...I’m not unhappy, but I do think there’s a better way I just don’t know how to get there.
Larry Smith, an economics professor at the University of Waterloo gave a fantastic Tedx presentation titled : “Why you will fail to have a great career.” See his talk here.
Many people will fail to have a great career because they aren’t passionate about their work.
When you step back from the conventional and define the word “great” you begin to see it in terms of a higher, more holistic meaning: freedom, purpose, connected, flexibility, complete.
Rewind a few years ago and my definition of “great” was more like excerpts from the Wall Street movie script (minus the illegal, immoral & nefarious): money, corner office, status, proving to everyone that I could do it (ahhh..this is an important one because at the end of the day it wasn't about me, it was about living up to others expectations).
Being on the other side I can confidently say that I much prefer the new definition of great.
So if you’ve been thinking about the next phase in your career, but moving up the corporate ladder doesn’t seem to fit anymore; I want to talk to you (cue Uncle Sam pointing his finger in your direction).
What are you passionate about? Can you make a living from it?
Maybe the answer is yes, maybe it's no. It depends on a number of factors.
But the answer will ALWAYS be no if you never consider the question.
Curious? Me too.
I'm opening up just 8 spaces for a complementary consultation. If we get to yes, then you will have the option of applying for admission into the Start Up Academy
Start Up Academy is an 8 month business launch intensive with monthly classes held the 1st Saturday of each month, weekly one-on-one coaching, monthly topic webinars (i.e. business structure, bookkeeping, social media, website, etc.) and monthly happy hours (this is intense stuff so we'll all take a night to let our hair down and have some fun).
You'll never know the full extent of the possibilities if you fail to take action.
