I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the process of starting and why it's so difficult. I guess it's because when we embark on a new journey or a new path in life, we are introducing something new into the world and we have no idea whether it will work or not. And the reason many people find starting something new to be a difficult undertaking is, well, fear for one thing, but confidence plays an equally key role.
Plain and simple, we lack confidence.
It’s these crazy mental hunger games we play with ourselves that keep us from gaining any level of momentum.
If you know anything about my work and the entire focus of The Moxie Project this next piece won’t come as a surprise to you (and if you are new to the tribe, first – welcome, and second, my work focuses heavily on state of mind because the mind is the bridge between you and your goals).
Ask yourself, why do things seem impossible?
We can come up with a long list of excuses as to why we would fail. Because social convention tells us that the probability for an extraordinary life is low and we should just be happy with what we have. Extraordinary, by definition, is not the norm.
Watching the Oscars, did you find yourself thinking “I can’t imagine what it would be like being that rich and that famous, wearing $100,000 worth of diamonds and a custom designed Yves Saint Laurent gown. That type of life only exists for very few people, certainly not for me.”
That is your BIGGEST failure right there! Why not you? There aren't a finite amount of "extraordinary lives" to be lived. It doesn't happen overnight, but it can happen.
Our mind is trained to think in scarcity or lack - which most of the time stems from beliefs we develop in childhood.
So we must retrain the mind in a way that enables productivity, releases possibility and ignores probability.
Most of us want an extraordinary life. The first step is to take action – don’t let “probability” control your possibility.
Action breeds confidence.
And that, my dear, is how you can change course in your life.
What is one small action step you can take today? Tomorrow? The next day?
Be brave, have courage, take action. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Whatever has been in your heart or on your mind - it's possible! You just have to try.
Cheers to you! ~Shelly
