What Now? The things you can do when you don’t know what to do.
I was chatting with someone the other day about direction and purpose. As she was talking her eyes began to fill with tears. I’ve known those tears. They are not tears of sadness or even of happiness, but of frustration. Those are the tears of “what the f@!* is wrong with me”. “Why can’t I seem to figure this out?”
I knew exactly what she was feeling...lost.
And so here’s what I shared with her:
First, lost doesn’t mean gone forever
Second, here are 5 small action steps to find your way back.
1. Make a list of the things you could do or have always wanted to do
2. Pick one, do it & remember to KISS – Keep It Simple Sweetheart
3. Disconnect from the decision – don’t think about the next step
4. Connect to the momentum of the action
5. Play a song that gets you pumped
For me, music is the one thing (aside from my daughter) that can instantly make me feel better. As I was listening to the radio this morning, a song came on that lifted me to a powerful place. Here are the words I heard:
“Give up the ghost.”
Ghosts are the things that haunt us - the bad decisions, the regret, the resentment. They are the voices that say we aren't smart enough, strong enough or don't have the talent. It's an active battle, but with every step forward, you are closer to the person who you really, truly are and want to be.
So, if you are feeling stuck or lost or even alone – give up the ghost.
You’ve got this.
Cheers to you!
